Spoiler!
Numerous purported anachronisms — such as the Dropkick Murphys poster hanging in Marcus's flat, or the size of mobile phones at the time when Diana was at secondary school — lead viewers to wrongly infer that Diana's adult life in the film is set in the present (2007) and that the other period depicted must therefore be 1992. That interpretation overlooks the film's central point: Diana's adult life is a flash‑forward imagining of what her future would have been had she not been killed by the pupil who later carried out a shooting at her secondary school; thus the school years are presumably contemporary (2007) and the adult life shown is fifteen years in the future.
