According to World Bank data, namely the World Development Report 1989, the average inflation rate in Yugoslavia was 57.2 per cent. After 1986 inflation spiralled out of control, exceeding 100 per cent per year, and by 1990 it had reached about 1,000 per cent annually. By the late 1980s prices were first doubling each year and eventually rose tenfold.
