Interesting facts
The film is based on the true events that befell Teddy Lussi-Modeste, its co-writer and director, who is himself a teacher. The incident took place at a school in Seine-Saint-Denis (in the northern suburbs of Paris) in 2019. A 13-year-old girl alleged that he had touched his belt while looking at her; one of her older brothers threatened him, another took her to the police station to lodge a complaint, all the teachers went on strike, and so on. Like Julien, the central character, he feared for his life each time he left the school, yet he was unwilling to stop teaching because he felt that doing so would be tantamount to admitting guilt, and he was also afraid for the colleagues who escorted him to the métro.
