Hysteria goofs

The newspaper's picture of Dr Granville is shown being taken with flash powder in a flash pan. The story is set in 1880, yet flash powder was not invented until 1885.

Although the film is set in 1880, Charlotte Dalrymple is shown riding a safety bicycle; such machines were not introduced until 1885.

Mortimer's hair, when he is introduced to Emily, is its usual length at the start of the scene, but by the end it has doubled in length.

Near the end of the film, when Emily and Mortimer are seated on a bench, a few drops of rain or dew from a leaf fall onto Mortimer's coat, creating a couple of damp patches that disappear and then reappear in subsequent shots.

The film suggests that the Granville Electric was the first mechanical vibrator. Although it pioneered the use of electricity in vibrators, hand-cranked models predated the Granville.

While practising phrenology on Dr Granville, Emily is impressed by the "rigid thrombus" she notices on his skull. A thrombus is a blood clot that forms inside a vessel, not a feature of the skull.

Whilst in court, Charlotte claimed she had been handing out suffragette leaflets in Leicester Square, despite the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) not being formed until 1903 and the term "suffragette" not coming into use until 1906.
