Audio/visual unsynchronised

The English subtitles are consistently misleading — they, for example, confuse "bride" with "fiancee" and render "wedding" as "betrothal." Their timing is often incorrect, and by the end they are completely out of synchronisation.

Continuity

When Nadya returns Ippolit's photograph, thrown by Zhenya through the window, in one shot the photograph shows Yuriy Yakovlev, the actor who ultimately portrayed Ippolit in the film, while in the next shot it depicts Oleg Basilashvili, who had originally been cast for the part but withdrew for personal reasons.

The aircraft on the Moscow–Leningrad service is a Tupolev Tu-134. It is fitted with two twin-seat sections, yet inside the cabin there are in fact two three-abreast seat groups.

Nadya's phone shifts in colour: for the most part it is red, but in certain scenes it appears green.

When Nadya takes the guitar and, for a few moments, both she and Zhenya hold the instrument while looking at one another, the guitar's neck is on Nadya's right in one shot and on her left in the next.

Errors in geography

The service telephone number shown on Nadya's lift is 241-84-44, containing seven digits. However, in 1975 Leningrad telephone numbers consisted of only six digits (whereas Moscow numbers had seven), which indicates the filming was actually carried out in Moscow rather than Leningrad.

In the scene where Nadya takes a night-time walk through Leningrad, an MTB-82 tramcar is visible passing behind her; by 1975 these trams were only in operation in Moscow.

Factual errors

In the introductory text the Russian word "isklyuchitelno" (meaning 'exceptional') is misspelt as "iskyuchitelno".

Plot holes

When Ippolit pulls up outside Nadya's flat his car is covered in snow, yet roughly half an hour later, as he drives away, the vehicle is completely clear. Although there would have been sufficient time for someone to clear it, it seems unlikely that a helpful neighbour would have been out removing snow from the car at that hour on New Year's Eve.
