How to Lose Friends & Alienate People goofs

Audio/visual unsynchronised

As the group depart the first party, Eleanor Johnson speaks to Sophie Maes before climbing into the car. The camera then cuts back to Sophie, who utters "Yea" even though her lips are clearly not moving.

At the stately home, the band pick up playing after Sidney Young tumbles from the top of the stage's wooden framework. In the subsequent shot facing the band, the keyboard player lifts his right playing hand off the keys and, using his left hand, settles it in his lap just before the final keyboard chord is played.

Character error

In the rival magazine's article about Sophie Maes which Sidney is reading, the word "epitome" is spelt "epitomy."

Continuity

At the party, Sophie Maes (Megan Fox) gathers her hair in her right hand, holds it above her shoulders and lowers herself into the pool. She walks through the pool in water that reaches just to her bust, and as she climbs out a clear "tide mark" is visible on her halter-neck dress, above which her shoulders and neck remain dry. In the next scene Sophie emerges from a lift with wet shoulders and neck.

While they are in the car en route to Sidney's flat, Alison throws up in his lap, but by the time they arrive his trousers are spotless.

At the stately home, when Sydney asks, "Do you want another drink?" and she replies, "Yeah, I'll have a half of lager," he stands up and lays a hand on her shoulder, his fingers pointing down the front of her dress. In the following shot, with his hand still on her shoulder, his fingers are now pointing down her back.

Crew or equipment visible

As Sidney looks at Lawrence from inside an office, the camera and lighting equipment are clearly visible in the reflection on the glass, despite the attempt to present Sidney's point of view.

In a scene where Sidney and Alison stroll down a street in New York together, the shadow of the camera kit and its operator is plainly visible in one of the shots.

Errors in geography

Sidney's limousine heads westwards past B.B. King's, yet the subsequent shot cuts to Times Square, which is situated to the east.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When Sophie Maes (Megan Fox) is first introduced she claims to be a vegetarian and insists she would never wear fur, yet at the party near the end of the film she appears to be wearing what looks like a genuine fur stole. This is likely evidence of how film stars may compromise their principles once they become famous.

Miscellaneous

When "La Dolce Vita" is screened in the park, there are no subtitles. As the film is in Italian, it would be rather odd to present it to an English-speaking audience without translation.

Revealing mistakes

A printed interview with Sophie Maes reads "psychophants" rather than "sycophants".

In the opening crane-down shot at the open-air party (approximately halfway through the film) you can spot a tiny "hair in the gate" at the bottom-centre of the frame. It remains in the following shot, but has evidently been removed by the time the next one appears.
