OceanGate was a privately held company, founded in 2009 by Stockton Rush and Guillermo Söhnlein. From 2010 until the loss of the Titan submersible, OceanGate carried paying passengers aboard hired commercial submersibles off the coast of California, in the Gulf of Mexico and in the Atlantic Ocean. The company was headquartered in Everett, Washington, United States.
