Because the main character shares several traits with writer/director Sophie Fillières, Fillières felt obliged to make clear that the script was not autobiographical. However, lead actress Agnès Jaoui did not see it that way: she was asked to wear the director's clothes and rings while filming, and even the therapist role was played by Fillières's own therapist.
