Numerous extras in the film were genuine descendants of the missionaries.
Fred Duehlmeier's son Doug, daughter-in-law Susan and grandson Scott all appeared as extras in the film.

A significant part of the film features a GMD locomotive. At that time the Germans did not employ diesel traction for their trains; steam haulage was still the norm.
Paul Grace portrays Joseph Fielding Smith. In The Fighting Preacher (2019), also directed by T.C. Christensen, he earlier portrayed Smith's father and namesake, Joseph Fielding Smith the elder, better known as Joseph F. Smith. Joseph F. Smith and Joseph Fielding Smith were the sixth and tenth presidents of the LDS Church (whose founder, also called Joseph Smith, was Joseph F. Smith's uncle).
