Serial Mom goofs

When Beverly goes to Chip's school for a PTA meeting, Mr Stubbins remarks that Chip is "off to a fine start this year". However, a card in the opening scene shows the date as Friday 14 May 1993, which would be near the end of the academic year rather than the beginning.

During the Sutphin family's opening dinner scene, Beverly (Kathleen Turner) offers Misty (Ricki Lake) a slice of meatloaf. In a medium shot of Beverly the slice is unmistakably the loaf's end or "heel", darker in colour and rounded on one side. In the subsequent medium shot of Misty, the slice appears to be from the centre of the loaf — lighter in shade, larger, and without the rounded edge.

During the scene where Serial Mom is in a beige van chasing Scotty in a red LeMans, the LeMans' bonnet is slightly ajar in a single shot midway through the pursuit, and is closed for the remainder of it.

In the main-title sequence, when Beverly swats a fly on a tray on the Sutphins' kitchen table, she returns the swatter to an upright position as quickly as she swats the fly. However, in the close-up in the next shot the swatter is flat on the tray. Once established, the swatter is pulled away more slowly than in the previous shot, revealing the squashed fly. After the squashed fly is revealed, the director's credit appears.

When Mrs. Sutphin arrives at her son's school to meet his teacher, the time is shown as 3:36 p.m. Shortly afterwards, she takes a seat in the hall and is summoned almost straight away into the classroom, where the clock shows 4:10 p.m.

In the opening dinner scene the exterior is shown as brightly lit and sunny. Moments later Rosemary is seen running towards the house and it appears to be after sunset, the house and garage lights already illuminated. When Rosemary re-enters the house, the outside once more looks bright and sunny.

Beverly would never leave court innocent. Early in the film, fingerprints were discovered on the murder weapons she had used, most notably on the fire poker and a pair of scissors.

When Mrs Jenson is at home watching the film Annie and singing "Tomorrow", Beverly breaks into the house intending to kill her. The song "Tomorrow" keeps looping at a point when the opening credits ought to have finished and the film should be getting under way.
