Anachronisms

Harry places a direct call to a seven-digit number from a payphone. That would not have been possible in the 1950s.

The red-sparkle Premier drums look far too contemporary to have been produced in 1955.

When Angel meets Cyphre in the café near the start of the film, several pieces of contemporary refrigeration equipment are visible. A large freezer unit is fixed to the wall above where Cyphre is seated — a model that was not manufactured until the mid-1970s. The smaller cake display cabinet behind Cyphre also appears to be an illuminated unit with temperature control; such equipment did not exist until the mid to late 1960s.

Character error

Cyphre struggles to peel his egg. At 0:27:50 the shell doesn't come away cleanly and takes chunks out of the egg. At 0:27:59 he takes a new egg and tries again, but the shell once more doesn't come away cleanly. At 0:28:23 he replaces it with yet another egg and finally peels it successfully.

In the hospital in Poughkeepsie, Harry Angel tells a nurse that he's from the National Institute of Health. The story is set in 1955, despite the organisation having been renamed the National Institutes of Health as far back as 1948. Still, it's possible that neither Harry nor the nurse were aware of the change.

Harry Angel tells Margaret Krusemark that the fact both he and Johnny Favorite were born on 14 February 1918 could be explained by soldiers serving in the First World War being home on leave at the same time. The supposed conception would therefore have occurred nine months earlier, in May 1917, but no American troops had been sent to the war that early, and they certainly wouldn't have been home on leave then.

Continuity

Whilst Harry Angel pours into Epiphany's glass at the hotel, he fills it to less than half with whatever it is they're drinking. In the subsequent shot, the glass is shown full.

When Harry Angel poses as an official (Harry Conroy) from the National Institute of Health at the private hospital just outside Poughkeepsie, his spectacles disappear between the penultimate and final shots at the end of his exchange with the nurse.

They vanish in the last frame (0:14:30) for a fraction of a second; the decision was made to retain that minute, inconsequential continuity error rather than reshooting.

After Cyphre returns Harry's wallet, he clasps his hands together in his lap. In the following shot, his hands are apart and resting on the armrests of the chair.

At 0:46:50 Harry tilts his cup so the tea sloshes (making it clear there is liquid inside), then places it on the table to his left. It isn't seen again. The shots that would have shown the table are obscured by either of them. In the scene's final frame, lasting only a split-second, the cup is absent.

Crew or equipment visible

As the two thugs and the dog assault Harry and have him pinned on his back, a knee-pad bulge can be seen beneath his right trouser leg.

Miscellaneous

During Angel's initial encounter with Cyphre, Cyphre's walking stick alternated between being in his hand and not being in his hand as the camera angle changed.

At times it was resting on his lap and thus out of frame.

The credit for "Extras Casting" is misspelt: the first T is omitted, appearing as "Exras Casting".

Credits and titles are outsourced and are not part of the filmmakers' job.
