When Joey is outside, she has a conversation with someone inside the building — they can hear one another clearly without raising their voices. Glass of this kind in tower blocks is very thick and sturdy and would muffle sound. Evidence of its toughness appears later when she attempts to smash the pane with a heavy spanner but fails.
