Audio/visual unsynchronised

When Schmidt and Jenko are in the attic of the fraternity house, they're holding a tablet with the camera feed playing. The tablet's audio is clearly audible on the camera recording, yet the status bar along the bottom plainly shows the device is muted. The same inconsistency occurs in another scene where a mobile phone is being used to send text messages — again, you can hear the clicking of the key presses despite the mute symbol being displayed.

At least once in the film a semi-automatic pistol is shown to "click" when it runs out of ammunition, which leads to one of the main characters failing to realise he has taken an empty pistol from a villain. Semi-automatic pistols don't "click" when they run dry. After the last round is fired the slide locks back and the trigger is rendered inoperable, so the firearm is unmistakably empty and the trigger cannot be pulled.

Spoiler!

After discovering that his daughter Maya is the pupil Schmidt had sex with, Captain Dickson fires off a series of threatening text messages to his mobile. We shouldn't be able to hear them arrive, since the mobile is shown to be on silent.

Spoiler!

When Schmidt and Jenko visit the psychology professor's office, the nameplate on the door reads Michael P. Murphy. Later, during a televised press conference, Deputy Chief Hardy states that they have apprehended the dealer and gives his name as Carl Murphy.

Immediately after the library sequence in which Jenko descends one landing at a time and then vaults over the railing, his footwear has flat soles rather than the studs he ought to be wearing with his football kit.

While Schmidt is performing slam poetry, he lets the tambourine drop. In the following shot it has already returned to the stool.

Spoiler!

While Jenko is dangling from the helicopter, a black cross‑hatched mark is visible on his arm; in the following cut‑scene the arm displays a bullet wound. This suggests he was shot before the helicopter took off.

While a golf buggy shaped like a football helmet is driven onto the pitch, the helmet's "faceguard" is torn away and wrecked. As soon as the villains emerge from the helmet, the "faceguard" has returned.

When Captain Dickson fires off a series of text messages to Schmidt's phone threatening to kill him, the name shown at the top of the phone screen shifts from "DICKSON" to "Dickson" between the screenshots.

While Schmidt and Jenko are in Captain Dickson's office being questioned about his daughter, he is holding his pistol. When Jenko re-enters the room laughing, the pistol is back on the desk, and Dickson then picks it up once more.

In the opening scene, the Ghost seems to be firing at Schmidt and Jenko, yet somehow he ends up in the cab of the moving lorry.

Crew or equipment visible

At the beginning of the film, when Schmidt and Jenko are walking beside their moving car, the driver's head is clearly visible as the vehicle passes the first pillar.

When Zook attempts to bring Jenko into his fraternity, the weights carry Tulane University's emblem.

Factual errors

The film's events take place in spring, yet the university is shown taking part in American football matches. Apart from bowl fixtures, the college football season finishes in November.

All the vehicles featured in the spring-break scenes bear licence plates only on the rear. Under Mexican law, every vehicle is required to display licence plates on both the front and the rear.

During the climactic fight one of the henchmen fires no fewer than eleven rounds from a 1911 without reloading. A standard 1911 magazine only holds eight rounds.

The final confrontation takes place in a fabricated location in Mexico. A local police force would have no jurisdiction to operate beyond the borders of the United States. Any arrest made there without the permission or cooperation of the Mexican authorities would be unlawful, and it would be extremely difficult to prosecute the offenders.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Schmidt struggles to drive the Lamborghini, particularly when changing gear and using the clutch. The Lamborghini shown is not fitted with a manual gearbox, so there is no clutch to operate. Gears are changed simply by pulling the two paddles mounted behind the steering wheel.

Although extremely rare, the Lamborghini Murciélago could be ordered with a manual gearbox. Since there is no clear view of the centre console or steering wheel, it cannot be confirmed which variant this is.

When the photograph of the dealer's tattoo is shown to the artist in his shop, the word "BOOM" appears not to be reversed as it would be if seen as a reflection in a car window. The image looks like an enlargement of the original photograph and may have been mirrored horizontally during the enlargement process.

After they eat the treats spiked with WhyPhy and the drug takes hold, we notice Schmitt and Jenko's pupils constrict. The drug is reported to contain Adderall, which would normally cause the pupils to dilate.

WhyPhy contains Adderall and MDMA — both typically linked to pupil dilation — but it is said to be "mixed with God knows what else", so those unknown additives could be producing an opposing effect.

While Schmidt is "getting into character" to meet the Ghost, his neck tattoo and teardrop are nowhere to be seen. When he steps out of the car, they have suddenly appeared.

This, however, is plainly intended for comic effect.

In the opening scene, the protagonists' car detonates the moment it collides with the lorry. That doesn't happen in real life; otherwise every road accident would be devastatingly lethal.

This is clearly intended for comic effect.
