The "109" terror case that the TMPD chief and JR officials frequently refer to takes its name from the Hikari 109 bullet train, which was threatened with a bomb in the original 1975 film Bullet Train. The Hikari is one of the original 1964 Shinkansen sets still operating on the Tokaido to San'yo lines. Before joining the Shinkansen service, the Hikari ran as an express train until 1958. It was regarded as the fastest train on the Shinkansen network until the arrival of the Nozomi services in 1992.
