The series is based on the screenplay by Julian Semenov. In 1917, in order to restore order in the country and fight counterrevolutionary forces and sabotage, an organization called the VChK was established, which would later be known to contemporaries as the KGB. The commission was formed on December 20, 1917, under the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR at the initiative of Vladimir Lenin. The story revolves around the first Chekists, who had to determine the time of turmoil and establish military dictatorship in the young Soviet country.
