After acquiring the distribution rights, Searchlight Pictures had planned to release the film in the United States on 8 December 2023. However, following lead actor Jonathan Majors' allegations of assault and subsequent trials, together with the 2023 Hollywood strikes, Disney removed the film from its release schedule entirely in October 2023. In January 2024 Searchlight relinquished its distribution rights and the producers began seeking a new distributor. In October 2024 Briarcliff Entertainment purchased the rights and scheduled the film for release in 2025.
The film was shot over a 24-day period.
During the Sundance Film Festival, distributors including Neon, HBO and Sony Pictures Classics competed to acquire the film. Searchlight Pictures ultimately secured it, only to relinquish the release rights entirely in January 2024.
