Orphan nurse Zhenya is getting married, she just needs to meet the groom's parents. But everything goes wrong - his family is not ready to accept an orphan until she finds her mother. Zhenya gets a job as a caregiver for retired police colonel Vasily Petrovich, and their communication turns into a great friendship. He helps her search for her mother, while she tries to reconcile the colonel with his son Peter, whom she herself falls in love with. But Peter is not happy about the arrival of a "freeloader" in their home - he suspects Zhenya of having mercenary interests towards his father. Unexpectedly, Vasily Petrovich dies, and the shared grief brings Zhenya and Peter closer. They become intimate. While going through the colonel's documents, Zhenya learns that Vasily Petrovich left her his house in his will. She doesn't have the courage to confess this to Peter, but he finds out from the notary, which becomes the reason for their breakup. Peter leaves the country, and Zhenya awaits two news: she finds the address of her real mother and learns that she is pregnant...
