The film Love Actually, glimpsed on the television around halfway through, was likewise written by Richard Curtis.
When Danny explains to his mum why he doesn't have the knack for winning over his crush Sam, she replies "Insignificant details." It's a nod to Love Actually (also penned by Richard Curtis), where Sam responds in much the same way to his dad (played by Liam Neeson): "Tiny insignificant details."
In November 2019, Locksmith Animation announced it was working on That Christmas, an animated feature film adapted from a series of children's books by Richard Curtis.
That Christmas had originally been slated for release by Warner Bros. Pictures under the Warner Animation Group banner; however, in June 2022 Netflix acquired the distribution rights and Netflix Animation assumed production. For reasons that have not been disclosed, Warner Bros. Pictures did not take part in the film.

The lighthouse keeper Bill is modelled on Jean-Jacques Cousteau, the French diver and explorer celebrated for his red cap, as portrayed in the film.
Bill's red hat and the distinct set designs for each storey of the lighthouse are a clear nod to Wes Anderson's films.
