Beyond Valkyrie: Dawn of the 4th Reich goofs

General Reinhardt's and Captain Blackburn's dress uniforms display several medals and ribbons in an incorrect order of precedence: the Purple Heart is wrongly placed ahead of the Distinguished Service Medal and the Bronze Heart, even though it does not outrank them.

Early in the film, a US Army captain addresses a US Army master sergeant as "Master Guns", which is the form of address used for a USMC master gunnery sergeant. Army personnel would never use that form of address.

A United States Army captain is told about Operation Valkyrie before it takes place, yet the Allies only learned of Valkyrie after the plot had failed.

A US Army major general refers to a US Army master sergeant as 'Gunny', the customary form of address for a gunnery sergeant in the US Marine Corps.

While dangling from his parachute harness, a United States Army soldier uses both hands to open a flick-knife (switchblade).

Very early in the film, when the Sturmbannführer SS officer alights from his car, a German soldier standing sentry has his helmet shoved back on his head — something that would never have been permitted. He also looks as though he could do with a haircut.

When the Allied unit is holed up in the bunker, it is assaulted by a squad of German soldiers supported by a tank. Yet when they climb out through the escape hatch and confront the remaining Germans outside, there is no tank to be seen — a vehicle whose presence would have made any escape virtually impossible.

Although the German uniforms are accurate and believable, the US uniforms look like cheap, badly made replicas. It seems the costume department could have sourced genuine tunics and caps from a military surplus shop or depot. The ribbons are incorrect, the placement of the general's stars on the cap is wrong, and "Gunny" is wearing officer corps insignia rather than enlisted badges.
