The story revolves around a seventeen-year-old girl named Sailor Rooks. Along with her family, she moves to a remote town in New England after a tragic accident, for which Sailor is blamed by everyone. However, in her new surroundings, she faces even more serious challenges. The main characters unexpectedly discover that beneath the ground lies a burrow inhabited by horrifying monsters - ancient creatures that prey on the darkest human fears and desires.
