The focus of the story is on the Slezkiny family. All members of this family have been driving minibuses for many years. They are used to living modestly, counting the days until their next paycheck. Everything changes when, by a stroke of luck, they inherit an apartment in an elite neighborhood. Living next to them is the affluent Kotlov family - Sergey, his wife Katya, and his mother-in-law Tamara Pavlovna. They do not want to associate with their working-class neighbors. Dislike turns into a fierce conflict when Rita Slezkina and Arseny Kotlov fall in love with each other.
