Dumplin' goofs

At 1:12:20, Will is hurrying to the building for the pageant opening. Millie shouts to her "You're LATE". Willowdean replies, "Well, I told Lee I needed my wardrobe by noon and he said 'I'm a designer, sugarplum, not a magician'". That suggests it is after midday. Yet about 45 seconds later, when Willowdean's mum steps onto the stage she says "Hello, good morning, girls." Once it is past midday it is no longer morning.

When Rosie is recounting to Willowdean how Lucy's helping her with the pageant dress, the position of Rosie's arms changes from one shot to the next.

The majority of the cars, including Rosie's and Willowdean's, do not have front number plates. At present the state of Texas requires motor vehicles to carry both front and rear plates. However, between 2013 and 2015 only a rear plate was required. That period coincides with when the novel was written and published and is the era in which the filmmakers chose to set the film.

At 24:54, when Willowdean reads Lucy's pageant entry form, Lucy's age and date of birth are visible. The date displayed is 5 May 1979, which is incorrect; it should read 5 May 1977, assuming Lucy was 16 in 1993.

When Ellen runs upstairs to fetch Will for the first day of school (18:27), she is wearing a denim skirt and a halter top; later at school she is seen in denim dungarees paired with a T-shirt. She had time to change herself, but not to wait for Will to change.

Lucy's pageant application is displayed. It records the date she completed the form as "August 1993". Further down it lists her age as "16" and, beside that, her date of birth as "5 May 1979". That date of birth would make her 14 at the time the form was completed, not 16.

When Will discovers the leaflet for the "Dolly Parton Night Every Saturday Night" in her aunt's scrapbook, there's no address to indicate where The Hideaway is. So how did Will and her friends manage to find the venue, and then insist at the door that they hadn't realised it was a bar?

At the finale, when they announce the performance is sold out, Millie's mum discovers she has been entered into the pageant; she decides to stay and, against the odds, manages to secure a seat.

Around 44:40, when Will and Elle are speaking to each other on their mobile phones, it is clear from the screens that the devices are not actually being used.
