The central character is a young girl named Giovanna. Her early years transition into adolescence, and she encounters various aspects of life in Naples in the early 1990s. Giovanna soon realizes that adults only seem to condemn teenagers, forcing them to speak the truth and nothing but the truth, behave appropriately, be well-mannered and responsible. However, they themselves do not rush to follow their own rules. Giovanna discovers that adults keep many secrets.
