"The Chess Queen" is a Russian crime mini-series set in the late 1980s. The story follows a young and brilliant chess player named Angelina Goreglyad who leaves the USSR for the West. While abroad, she unexpectedly becomes passionate about literature and creates a series of mysterious detective novels. Meanwhile, someone steals rare diamonds from an exhibition. Years later, Angelina's descendants discover a clue to solving this robbery in her manuscripts. It is up to her niece, Vera, to piece the puzzle together.
