Biography of Dakota Johnson

Dakota Mayi Johnson, a native of the United States, came into prominence as Anastasia Steele in the erotic drama trilogy "Fifty Shades of Grey," in which she starred in 2013, 2015, and 2018. Johnson's formative years were spent accompanying her actress parents to sets and red carpet events. She began her acting career alongside her mother when she was just 10 years old, in the controversial comedy "Crazy in Alabama" (1999).

To prepare for her career as an actress and model, Dakota went back to school and waited a few years. She won the title of Miss Golden Globe in 2006, a stepping stone awarded to the children of the Hollywood elite. As the first person from a second generation to hold the title of Miss Golden Globe, she made history. She's now an IMG Model as well. She was a MANGO jeans model in 2009. Traveling to Sydney, Australia, Dakota filmed the "Rising Star" campaign for clothing line Wish.

After completing her high school education, she began her acting career by signing with the William Morris Agency. With her scene partner Justin Timberlake, she had her first major movie office success in 2010's “The Social Network”. There were a total of eight Oscar nods for the picture, including one for Best Picture. In addition to her work with Vanessa Hudgens and Mary-Kate Olsen in "Beastly" (2011), she has also acted in "Chloe and Theo" (2015), directed by Ezna Sands, and "For Ellen" (2012), directed by So Yong Kim.

She appeared in the 2012 films "Goats" (directed by Christopher Neil) and "The Five-Year Engagement" (directed by Nicholas Stoller), as well as the feature film adaptation of the '80s TV series "21 Jump Street" (1987), which launched the career of Johnny Depp. She was also cast as the lead female role in Alan Yang and Chris Nelson's film "Date and Switch" (2014). Her first major television appearance was as Kate in the title role of the Fox sitcom "Ben and Kate," which aired in the fall of 2012, but was canceled in 2013.

After that, she appeared in "Need for Speed" (2014), "Cymbeline", and "Fifty Shades of Grey." She triumphed over numerous other young actors to land the part of Anastasia, and the resulting film was a smash hit around the world, catapulting her to fame.

With her performance in "Fifty Shades of Grey," she won the People's Choice Award for Dramatic film actress. As a new mother who suffers the loss of her kid in "Black Mass" (2015), opposite Johnny Depp, or as a seductive temptress in "A Bigger Splash," she has always sought out hard roles. She started out in drama, but movies like "How to Be Single" (2016) have shown her comedic chops. She will next be seen in "Crackpot," directed by Elaine May, and "Daddio," directed by Christy Hall.

Johnson has also agreed to star in and produce the Amazon Studios mockumentary series "Rodeo Queens," which will be helmed by Carrie Brownstein. She has recently been cast in the title role of "Madame Web," a superhero film set in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, in February 2022.
